Summer Heats Up for Smith
AMSOIL driver finding summer groove

Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith has been tearing up the countryside looking for wins in his AMSOIL/Chevy Monte Carlo. Here's a look at how Smith has been doing the past couple of weeks:

July 6-8, 2007 -- Smith and his team invaded the Volunteer State for a pair of NARA Late Model Dirt Series events. On Friday night, July 6, the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tenn. played host to a $10,000-to-win show. Smith finished second in his competitive heat race to earn the inside fourth row starting spot for the 75-lap feature event. During the course of the A-Main, Smith was able to get by three cars en route to a fourth-place finish behind Scott Bloomquist, Scott James and winner Jimmy Owens.

The action then turned to the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee on Saturday for another $10,000-to-win event. Smith could only muster a sixth-place finish in his heat race, but rallied to win his B-Main and earn a coveted starting spot in the main event. The Solon Springs, Wis.-native rolled off 18th for the A-Main and quickly pointed his AMSOIL/Bloomquist machine toward the front of the field. Smith was able to pass 16 of the best Dirt Late Model drivers in the country to earn a strong runner-up performance to car builder Scott Bloomquist. All of the exciting racing action at the "Gap" on Saturday was taped by the cameras of SPEED Channel for viewing later in the season.

July 9, 2007 -- Smith was in action at the C.J. Raceway in Columbus Junction, Iowa, as the UMP Summernationals tour invaded the Hawkeye State for the first time in 2007. Smith finished fourth in a competitive heat race and rolled off from the fifth row for the $6,000-to-win A-Main. At the conclusion of the feature event, Smith was credited with a strong fourth-place performance behind winner Shannon Babb, Don O'Neal, and Billy Moyer.

July 10, 2007 -- The UMP Summernationals tour continued at the Quincy Raceway in Quincy, Ill. and another $6,000 top prize was up for grabs. Smith finished second in his heat race before driving his AMSOIL Monte Carlo to a strong third-place effort in the A-Main behind winner Shannon Babb and runner-up Dennis Erb.

Smith will be at the Farmer Cit Raceway in Farmer City, Ill. on Friday, July 13, 2007.

Grant Rebounds at Red Bud
Team AMSOIL battle famous LaRocco Leap

Team AMSOIL members aren’t letting the summer heat get in their way at the AMA Outdoor Nationals. The series returned to the popular Red Bud Track ‘N Trail National in Buchanan, Mich. just before the July 4th holiday.

In the Motocross class, Kevin Windham battled hard in his two motos, finishing tenth and sixth for an eighth overall.  That puts the veteran rider in eighth overall in the season long points race.

In the Lites class, Josh Grant returned to the podium in his second race of the day, finishing third.  Grant combined that top finish with a fourth in moto one for a third overall on the day.  Teammate Jake Weimer went 7-4 for a fifth overall.  Grant is third in the points race while Weimer sits in sixth.

The 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series will now move eastward for round six that will take place at the legendary Unadilla, New York circuit on Sunday, July 15, 2007. AMA airs all of its races on SPEED.  AMSOIL is also the Exclusive Official Oil of the AMA Outdoor Nationals.

WPSA Showcases Sweep

AMSOIL, the exclusive Official Oil of the WPSA ATV series, took part in last weekend’s racing at the Virginia Motorsports Park.

John Natalie, Jr. and Chris Borich swept the Pro ATV finals on Sunday. The event will be telecast on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. EDT on ESPN 2.

"I think this is the best I've ridden all year," said Natalie. "I had a little more than a week to prepare for this race, which is the most I've had all year due to injuries. So that really paid off."

Borich outclassed the QuadTerrain Pro Stock field, leading every lap of the final.

"This is great for Can-Am," said Borich. "I'm here to help Can-Am, and I'm having a ball doing it. This is great."

The next race for the PowerSports ATV Tour, the AMSOIL Wild Cat Open Championship, is scheduled for July 21-22 at Wild Cat Creek MX in Rossville, Ind.

Autumn Woods Double Dips in Springfield
AMSOIL duo strong in Springfield

The Autumn Woods Racing team of Jeff Dedick and Ricky Brantley continued their team success at the Special Events 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals in Springfield, Ill. on June 23-24.

Monsoon-style rains flooded the outdoor track, turning the event into a slop-fest. Qualifying rounds were cancelled on Saturday leaving the entire field of teams on stand-by for Sunday's final.

Despite more wet weather on Sunday, the Jamboree held a one-lap qualifying for placement in the bracket-style racing. With conditions being too dangerous for side-by-side racing, timed singles runs would determine the weekend winners. Time measured by a single stopwatch placed Dedick into second by a narrow 2/10ths of a second. Just behind Dedick was teammate Brantley in third.

For the season, AWR trucks remain in second (Dedick) and third (Brantley) respectively in overall points. AWR will be in Bloomsburg, Pa. for an ESPN-recorded 4-Wheel Jamboree on July 13-15.

On tap this weekend

The Bassmasters Elite Series moves closer to AMSOIL pro angler Darrin Schwenkbeck's hometown as the world's top pros will be fishing in the Champion's Choice on Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on July 12-15.

In WSORR action this season, AMSOIL-sponsored drivers have taken 14 podiums, including six wins. Drivers Mike Oberg and Scott Douglas will be racing at the next round of WSORR July 14-15 in Bark River, Mich.

The 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series will now move eastward for round six that will take place at the legendary Unadilla, New York circuit on Sunday, July 15, 2007

AWR will be in Bloomsburg, Pa. for an ESPN-recorded 4-Wheel Jamboree on July 13-15.
