Teague Picks Up Second Straight Win
AMSOIL off-shore on a mid-summer roll

Off Shore racing legend Bob Teague piloted the AMSOIL Cat Lite power boat to its second win of the 2007 season. Teague and driver Paul Whittier went head to head with 10 of the top cat lites in the nation in St. Clair, Mich.

Drawing a starting position in the third lane, the AMSOIL boat was in prime position to conquer the 11.5 laps on the 7.3 mile course. On the first straight-a-way AMSOIL led the fleet into the first turn. Coming out of the turn, AMSOIL pushed past the Motley Crew boat and pulled a few boat lengths ahead going to turn one. AMSOIL nailed the turn and pulled further ahead of Motley Crew and from there continued to add about two seconds per lap to the lead. AMSOIL led the race from start to finish.

"The difference in our boat's performance was attributed to the AMSOIL products being used in the engines and drives," said Teague.

Teague and Whittier will be in Orange Beach, Ala. starting August 17.

Rinker Snubbed in St. Louis
AMSOIL driver debates missed podium

Team AMSOIL ChampBoat driver Terry Rinker was exhausted after his second place finish at the Grand Prix of St. Louis on August 5.  The defending series champion worked tirelessly to put the AMSOIL #10 into second place, despite numerous restarts and a cracked boat.  The exhaustion was quickly replaced by anger and disappointment after Rinker learned he had been penalized one lap for a driving infraction.

Rinker, who started the 50-lap race one spot away from the pole position, led the 36th Annual Bud Light St. Louis Grand Prix for about a third of the race before getting caught up in traffic, allowing Todd Bowden to take the lead.  Bowden crossed the finish line with the win and Rinker was about two seconds back in second. Bud Light driver Tim Seebold finished in third.

After the boats had been pulled out of the water, Rinker and Bowden were on their way to the winner’s circle podium when news came out over the loud speaker that both Rinker and Bowden had been assessed a one-lap penalty.  Bowden’s penalty came in result of his boat taking out a buoy.  He was awarded third place in the final rundown.

Rinker’s one-lap penalty was less clear.  The AMSOIL driver was docked for what officials determined to be a driver infraction.  The questionable call came less than 10 laps into the race when Rinker and Chris Fairchild made contact heading into turn four.  Rinker was on the outside lead position and made a strong move into the turn.  Fairchild also went for the same position and hit the Rinker boat, causing Fairchild to crash and the red flag to come out.  Rinker was not penalized at the time and restarted in his second position.  Fairchild was able to return to the race, but had to start at the end of the dock.  Rinker learned of the penalty and his new fourth place finish after the race was completed.  The Bud Light boat driven by Tim Seebold was awarded the win.

“This is a tough decision to deal with,” said Rinker after the race. “We put the AMSOIL boat in a position to win today, but a judgment call changed our fate.  We’ll review the incident and challenge the call, but we definitely were a faster boat this afternoon.”

Randy Rinker, driver of the #41 AMSOIL boat and Terry’s brother, ran a strong race in St. Louis, finishing in tenth. Despite finishing fourth, Terry Rinker is still in the hunt for his third straight championship and fourth in five years.  Rinker currently sits fourth overall in the points chase with five races remaining on the 2007 schedule.  The next event will be in Warsaw, Ky. on August 18-19.

Summer Heads Home for ‘Nationals’
AMSOIL driver looking for home-grown success

Brady Smith and his AMSOIL late model team enjoyed a busy extended weekend in their home state of Wisconsin from August 1-4. The Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis. kicked things off on Wednesday night, August 1, with a WDRL race. Smith ran third in his heat race, which earned him the outside seventh row starting spot for the feature event. Early in the 50-lapper, the Solon Springs, Wis. native was involved in an incident that unfortunately broke his tie-rod. He wound up 25th in the final rundown.

The action then turned to the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. on Thursday, August 2. Smith ran second in his heat race, seventh in the dash, and a solid fifth in the $5,000 to win WDRL Series main event. The annual running of the ‘USA Nationals’ then took place at CLS over the weekend. Smith finished second in his heat race on Friday evening before starting tenth in the $50,000 to win A-Main on Saturday, August 4. During the course of the 100-lap race on Saturday, Smith ran as high as fourth before he was forced to pull off of the race course due to mechanical issues. He wound up being paid for 14th.

“We had a good car all three races, but just didn’t get the opportunity to show it,” commented Smith this week. “From the broken tie-rod at Superior to the problems at Cedar Lake, we just didn’t have a lot of luck. But, we will look to regroup this week and have a strong run at Florence.”

Canard Wins Twice at Loretta’s
Team AMSOIL rider wraps up amateur career

While things are heating up in the AMA Outdoor National Motocross Series, the weather was much cooler as the circuit headed for Washougal, Wash.

One rider who is not cooling off is Team AMSOIL rider Kevin Windham. The veteran star has been pushing his Honda CRF 450 to the podium the past few weeks and Washougal was no different. In the first moto, K-Dub started strong, coming out of the first turn in second. He would fight the front of the pack in a back-and-forth battle, finally ending up in sixth. Things went his way in the second moto, getting out front early. The Louisiana rider rode strong, riding second for much of the race. A misread on the final lap cost Windham a position as he dropped back to third. For the weekend, Windham finished fourth overall and currently sits seventh in the season points race.

In the Lites class, Josh Grant rebounded from his sixth place, moto 1 finish with a top-five, fourth in moto 2. Grant's 10 points were good enough for fourth overall and helped distance himself for the third place, overall battle he is having with Jason Lawrence. Grant leads Lawrence by 30 points. Teammate Jake Weimer also finished the weekend strong. After finishing 13th in moto 1, Weimer rebounded with an eighth for an eighth overall.

Windham, Grant and Weimer also competed in the Summer X Games the first week of August.  Grant and Weimer failed to make the main, but Windham rode a strong race, finishing in third.

AMSOIL, the Exclusive Official Oil of the AMA Outdoor Nationals, will welcome the circuit back to the Midwest in two weeks. The series returns to Steel City Raceway in Pennsylvania August 25-26 for the tenth round of racing.

Canard Wins Twice at Loretta’s
Team AMSOIL rider wraps up amateur career

When it mattered most, the Oklahoma Kid dug deep in the Tennessee heat to take home the sweep at the Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals presented by AMSOIL.

Team AMSOIL rider Trey Canard needed three wins in two classes to repeat as champion at the biggest amateur race of the year. Canard, who competed in the MX Lites A and MX Lites A/Pro Sport classes, picked up four straight wins to close out two more amateur championships at the home of the Coal Miner's Daughter.

Canard entered Thursday afternoon needing a win in the MX Lites/Pro Sport class to have a shot at the overall championship. He quickly moved into the lead and never looked back. He would go on to win the race and needed to finish ahead of Austin Stroupe in Saturday's final for the overall win. Canard again grabbed the hole shot, but a red flag pushed the field back to the start line. On the restart, Canard again grabbed the hole shot, but had to battle Stroupe for much of the race before finally putting the Kawasaki rider away in the latter third of the race.

The MX Lites A/Pro Sport class was the second championship of the weekend for Canard. On Friday, Canard entered the final MX Lites A race in a three-way tie with Stroupe and Nikko Izzi. Canard showed why he will be a pro contender on the AMA circuits as he pushed his SoBe/Samsung/AMSOIL/Honda to the win and the overall championship.

Autumn Woods Wins Three Straight
Dedick moves into points lead

Autumn Woods Racing has returned home from a successful three-event road trip.

The team first stopped in Canfield, Ohio for Family Events Inaugural Truck & Jeep Fest by 4-Wheel Parts and 4-Wheel Drive Hardware. In the timed single-pass event on a U-Shaped course over moguls the Autumn Woods Racing boys showed they have the winning edge. Jeff Dedick’s 14.15 seconds run earned the 1st place win with Adam Pautsch just one second behind earning 2nd.

On July 31, the team headed to Buffalo, N.Y. for a SCORR event. The event featured a Chicago-Style, side-by-side bracket race. Dedick again took home the win and teammate Pautsch claimed fourth.

AWR's third driver, Ricky Brantley joined Dedick for the 4x4 Jamboree in Essex Junction, Vt. last weekend. The side-by-side racing featured a double points weekend. Dedick grabbed another win and pushed the AWR truck into first place in the series points challenge. Brantley took home a third and is just 40 points away from second overall.

The AWR team will be in Indianapolis in September.
