“Windham Finds Podium at U.S. Open”
“Teammate Grant Top Lites Rider in Las Vegas”

Las Vegas ~ Team AMSOIL supercross rider Mike LaRocco won the prestigious U.S. Open in 2002, marking the last time an AMSOIL backed rider won the event.  This year, Kevin Windham was in perfect position to win the team’s second title after dominating the week before at the Jeremy McGrath Invitational, an exhibition race held in California.

Windham, who finished third overall at last year’s U.S. Open, started the weekend off on Friday night by setting the fastest lap time during qualifying.  He would take that momentum into Friday’s main event, starting strong and finishing third.  Windham would find a pair in Vegas on Saturday, finishing the second night of racing with his second third place finish for third overall.
Meanwhile, Windham’s teammate Josh Grant continues to display his unlimited potential.  In the Lites class, Grant used a holeshot on Friday night to gain the lead and didn’t look back, winning the 20-lap final.  Grant nabbed the holeshot again on Saturday and lead from start to finish for a weekend sweep.

“I’ve been riding great and feel really comfortable,” said Grant. “We trained really hard and are working towards the supercross championship. I am having a good time and am stoked about the upcoming season.”

AMSOIL teammate Jake Weimer also had a strong weekend of racing.  The second year rider finished fourth on Friday and second to Grant on Saturday in the Lites class.  The entire AMSOIL-sponsored supercross team will begin the AMA Supercross Series the first weekend in January.

"Super Team" Closing In
Oberg, Douglas both in championship chase

Chula Visa, Calif. ~ The AMSOIL Super Team has its sight set on taking two titles home from Southern California this weekend as the Championship Off-Road Racing series wraps up is final two round in Chula Vista, Calif. on Saturday and Sunday.

Scott Douglas, who had three wins and seven podiums at the last two weekends of racing in Crandon, Wis., and Chula Vista, is third overall in the Pro-4 four-wheel drive class.  The El Cajon, Calif. native is just 10 points away from second and just 25 points away from winning his first Pro-4 title since 1997.

Douglas is also in the running in the highly competitive Pro-2 class, but trails Super Team member Mike Oberg in the standings.  Oberg has been one of the top drivers in the second half of the season.  The Eagle River, Wis.-native sits only three points out of first place.  Douglas, fifth overall, has rejoined the Pro-2 points battle and is one of five drivers less than 12 points from winning the title.

The championship battle will conclude on October 21-22 in Chula Vista, Calif.

Rock Crawlers Show Off Skills, Speed
Lovell brothers use exhibition, racing series for exposure

Chula Visa, Calif. ~ Brad and Roger Lovell are fresh off their third straight U.R.O.C. championship, and the rock crawlers were looking for a little extra competition to keep them busy during the off-season.

The Lovells took part in a demonstration event at the Off Road Expo in Pomona, Calif. at the end of September.  Although the Lovells usually tackle a rock crawling track alone, the event at Pomona called for trucks to line up side-by-side around a small track and compete for four laps.  The AMSOIL backed Ford Ranger was guided by Brad Lovell to a pair of wins.  UROC hopes to build off the event and plans to host three rockcross races in 2007.

The Lovells decided to speed things up at their next event.  In their hometown of Colorado Springs, Colo., they took part in the final Xxtreme Rock Racing Association event of the year.  The XRRA is a fast-paced, timed course which mixes speed with rock crawling.  The Lovells had raced in an XRRA event earlier this and were looking for their first win.  While they set the fastest time, the team clipped a banner on their second run and was slapped with a two-minute penalty.  This took them out of the running by doubling their posted time.  The brothers did finish in seventh out of 34 trucks.  The SPEED Channel filmed the event for a future airing.

Brady Smith Eyeing World Championship
Late model driver going head-to-head with the best this weekend

Solon Springs, Wis. ~ The Brady Smith Racing Team and dirt late model pilot Brady Smith took last weekend off from dirt late model competition.  Their time off will not last long, however, as they are scheduled to jump back into action this coming weekend.

Smith and his AMSOIL backed Chevy Monte Carlo team will tackle the prestigious “Dirt Track World Championship” on October 19-21.  The K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio will once again hold the annual event and a stout $50,000 payday is up for grabs.

An open practice session will be held at K-C on Thursday night, October 19, with qualifying and heat race action slated for Friday evening.  The consolation events and the 100-lap A-Main are then scheduled for Saturday, October 21.

Hall demonstrated championship caliber consistency with eight top-10 finishes in 2006.  AMSOIL Dealer Larry Rosenthal sponsors Randy Hall Racing.
