“Inaugural Champ Uses AMSOIL”
Late Model driver Pat Doar wins first DTRA Championship
New
Richmond, Wis. ~ With the Cedar Lake Speedway
championship already wrapped up, Team AMSOIL late model driver Pat Doar focused
his sights on winning the inaugural Dirt Track Racing Association championship.
Doar, who won
the 2005 AMSOIL Late Model Series, took home the $15,000 series paycheck after
winning “The 100” at Cedar Lake Speedway last weekend. Doar edged out fellow
driver Steve Laursen by 13 points for the circuit’s first championship.
Another
AMSOIL driver made a chase for the title in the DTRA Modified class. Entering
The 100 weekend, Darrell Nelson held a five-point lead for the championship.
However, technical problems forced him out of the final early, but still with
enough points to stay in second place in the points race. Nelson also finished
eighth in the late model class.
Other AMSOIL
drivers who finished strong in the DTRA standings include Team AMSOIL driver
Craig Thatcher, who finished eighth in the modified class. Jody Bellefuille
just missed the top ten with his 11th place finish. AMSOIL Direct Jobber Bob
Czeczok sponsors Bellefuille.
“Smith Rallies For Fine Finish”
Late Model racer makes move on field in central Iowa
Farley,
Iowa ~ Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith was
looking to get back on track after missing the A-Main at the Eldora 100 two
weeks ago. The Solon Springs, Wis. driver headed south to the Farley Speedway
in Farley, Iowa last weekend for the annual running of the “Yankee Dirt
Classic.”
The driver
known across the dirt late model community as the “Deuce”, timed in sixth
quickest in qualifying. However, a flat tire in his heat race and an on-track
incident during the B-Main caused Brady to have to fall back on his qualifying
time. He took advantage of a provisional and rolled off 24th for the 100-lap
feature event on Saturday night. The driver of the AMSOIL/Monte Carlo pointed
his car toward the front at the drop of the green flag and started picking off
cars, one by one. As the checkered flag fell on the $10,000 to win event, Smith
was credited for a solid sixth place performance.
Smith will
invade the Cornhusker State of Nebraska this coming weekend for the two-day
“Cornhusker Classic.” The World Dirt Racing League Series will sanction the
doubleheader racing weekend at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. A
$2,500 to win show is scheduled for this Friday night, September 22 at the
4/10-mile oval, while a $5,000 weekend finale is slated for Saturday.
