Eckstrom Finishes Season On Top
AMSOIL rider grabs two top tens
Superior,
Wis. ~ Team AMSOIL/Scheuring Speed Sports received two top honors at
the World PowerSports Association Banquet in Lake Geneva, Wis. on
Sunday, March 19, 2006. D.J. Eckstrom finished the Snocross series with
two top10 finishes in the 2005-06 season.
In the Pro Open standings, Eckstrom finished the year in third place
with 485 points, just 35 points behind champion Robbie Malinoski and
only 12 behind second place rider Ross Martin. Eckstrom finished the
season with three podiums in the Pro Open class, including a win at his
hometown track at the AMSOIL Duluth National. A crash in the final at
Lake Geneva pushed Eckstrom out of second in the point’s race.
In the Pro Stock standings, Eckstrom finished the year in seventh
place, just two points behind the fifth spot. He finished the season
with three third place podiums in the Pro Stock class.
Teammate Carl Schubitzke finished the season 19th in the Pro Open class
and 20th in Pro Stock despite competing in only two rounds and missing
the last round with a cracked rib and a broken hand.
Grant Grabs Second Win
Windham makes 2006 season debut
Orlando, Fla. ~ With Mike LaRocco’s retirement still fresh on the
minds of race fans, the AMSOIL/Factory Connection team needed a boost of
good news heading into Orlando last weekend. The team was able to hold
out hope on two impressive fronts. The first was the season debut of
superstar Kevin Windham to the Supercross class after missing the first
10 rounds with a broken arm. The second bit of good news came in the
form of rising star Josh Grant. The young Californian had three
straight podiums heading into Orlando, including his first career
Supercross Lites win.
In the Supercross Lites class, a battle has been brewing between
Grant and points leader Davi Millsaps. Grant is second overall in the
points race, but only because of two crashes during the opening round of
the East Coast Lites series, which yielded no points. Since then, Grant
has been on a tear.

In the first Lites heat of the night, Grant followed KTM’s Jay
Marmont into the first turn. The AMSOIL rider quickly muscled his way
to the front of the pack. He turned the fastest lap times of the day
and easily won the qualifier. Meanwhile, teammate Tommy Hahn had to go
through the Last Chance Qualifier to get into the main. Hahn finished
second in the LCQ, good enough to advance to the final.
In the Lites main, Grant didn’t battle for his patented holeshot, but
he quickly found the right lines and his unprecedented speed. From the
fourth position, he battled with Millsaps for before Grant, before
moving into third. By lap four, Grant was breathing down the necks of
the top two riders. On lap four he passed them both and quickly
stretched out his lead. No other rider challenged Grant from the point
on and the 22-year-old easily took the checkered flag and his fourth
straight podium. Hahn, meanwhile, finished a strong sixth.
“I got a bad start tonight and was a little disappointed with it,”
said Grant afterwards. “I knew it was my day though and I'm happy. I've
been working on the whoops all this week with Windham and it's really
paid off."
Windham, who battled the flu earlier in the week, was hoping for a
strong showing in his first race since the Motocross des Nations in late
September. He took a strong second in his qualifying heat behind Ricky
Carmichael, and easily qualified for the main. Teammate Billy
Laninovich is also continuing to ride the 450cc Honda while the AMA is
on the East Coast, and qualified for the final after taking over fifth
place in the final turn of his heat race.
In the main, Windham got a good start and battled Chad Reed early on
for sixth. He rode strong early in the race, but conditioning became a
factor. Windham gave way to Reed and faded to the middle of the pack,
finally finishing in ninth. Laninovich finished the race in 20th.

More From Team AMSOIL
- Justin Williamson landed on the podium last weekend at the first
OMA National in Oklahoma. Williamson also took a 13th overall at
the first GNCC race in Florida. Last weekend, he was running well
at the GNCC race in Georgia before his chain fell off after he
slammed into a deep-rooted rut. He was still able to finish in the
top 20. He is currently ranked 21st out of the top 100 off-road
races in the country in the latest Dirt Bike Magazine.
- Team AMSOIL rider Jacob Aizikovitz of JESCO Racing is getting
closer to his goal of qualifying for the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur
Nationals presented by AMSOIL. The KTM 125 rider finished tenth in
a tough 19-bike field. Aizikovitz will spend the next few weekends
preparing for the Loretta Lynn’s qualifiers and Ponca City race.
AMSOIL Dealer Ken Moorehead sponsors Aizikovitz through the AMSOIL
Race Co-op Program. “Now that our vehicles are on AMSOIL,” said
Aizikovitz, “My free time at the track is not spent changing oil.”

Team
AMSOIL rider Brandee Payne is trying hard to get back to Loretta
Lynn’s. The Orange, Texas rider finished first in the girls
65-105cc 9-13 year-olds race at Gravity Alley in Breaux Bridge,
La. Payne finished sixth overall at Loretta’s in 2005. AMSOIL
Dealer Jason Keranen sponsors her.
- Kenneth Moore is fighting both the weather and the competition
this year. Because of bad weather, Moore has had to race in two TT
Scrambles instead of his usual motocross races. On March 12, he
finished fifth and last weekend he improved to fourth. He is
expected to be back on a motorcross track this week.
