Sign up for our Email Newsletter	THE CHECKERED FLAG August 31, 2006 Edition GREEN FLAG “Autumn Woods Still on Top” Team AMSOIL nabs podium, remains top two teams Bloomsburg, Penn. ~ Despite the six-week postponement, the AMSOIL sponsored Autumn Woods Racing was looking forward to their battle in Bloomsburg, Penn. on August 19-20.  The team, which holds three world championships in short course, off-road racing, headed into the eastern Pennsylvania town with both of its drivers on top of the standings. Series leader Jeff Dedick headed into Sunday’s final with the top qualifying time, despite heavy rains that soaked the off-road track.  Meanwhile, AWR teammate Ricky Brantley, who sits second in the series points race, was right behind Dedick with the second fastest qualifying time.  Dedick would sail through the first two rounds, easily taking wins in both races.  Brantley, meanwhile, was disqualified after hitting a boundary marker. Dedick, with the ESPN on-board camera mounted on his truck, moved into the semi-final round and was leading the race when he broke his rear suspension, leaving him with only three wheels to finish the race.  Dedick placed third overall on the weekend and gained enough points to stay in first place in the 4-Wheel Jamboree points race.  Brantley is currently tied for second. Autumn Woods Racing will travel to Indianapolis September 22-24 for the final race of the year.  ESPN will again be on hand to record the event for a future airing. “AMSOIL Duo Gunning for Titles” Two dirt track drivers lead national points race Superior, Wis. ~ Three dirt track race car drivers are leading the charge in the Dirt Track Racing Association’s (DTRA) points standings in 2006, and all of them are powered by AMSOIL synthetic lubricants. New Richmond, Wis. super late model driver Pat Doar, a past winner of the AMSOIL Late Model Series, is currently leading the DTRA national series by 11 points.  Doar, who recently wrapped up his third straight track championship at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., has 1,292 points after 31 races.  He is currently 29 points ahead of second place with just five races remaining on the DTRA “Chase” schedule. Hermantown, Minn. resident Darrell Nelson is leading the way in his AMSOIL backed modified.  Nelson has just a four-point lead over the second place driver. He recently won the modified feature at Proctor Speedway (Minn.), his sixth feature win of the season, and claimed the track championship in the process. Another AMSOIL sponsored racer, Craig Thatcher, currently sits in eighth place with only three races left on the schedule. The DTRA will feature the super late models this weekend at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D.  Both classes will be featured as part of the Northern Nationals at the Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis. on September 9 and at “The 100” finale at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. September 14-15.   Brady Smith Feels Heat at Scorcher Team AMSOIL late model victim of crash Bulls Gap, Tenn. ~ Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith was looking to take the bull by the horns at the Volunteer Speedway last week for the Scorcher 100.  The three-day event is one of the biggest races in the United States and this marked Smith’s first trip to the track. Unfortunately, Smith’s first night of racing at the oval ended early as his #2 Chevy Monte Carlo was caught up in a wreck on the first lap of his heat race after a car spun out in from of him.  Smith will be off the road for the next few nights as his wife is expected to give birth to their second child this week. AMSOIL Presents Loretta’s on OLN Labor Day means motocross racing from Loretta Lynn’s Superior, Wis. ~ More than 1,200 racers took part in the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals presented by AMSOIL at the beginning of August in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.  Now those riders and their fans get a chance to see all of the racing up close when the week-long event hits the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) starting on Labor Day weekend. The Amateur Nationals presented by AMSOIL will debut its original airing of the United States top motocross racers on Saturday, September 2 starting at 3 p.m. EST.   Two repeat broadcasts will be made, including one showing at 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, September 6 and at 4 p.m. EST on Thursday, September 7. AMSOIL is the Official Oil of Loretta Lynn’s and the presenting sponsor of the annual event.  Past winners include AMA supercross and motocross stars Kevin Windham and Josh Grant, both members of the AMSOIL/Factory Connection/Honda team. After 18 races, motocross rider Rich Bruce is in third place in the 30+A class AMA District 17 Hare Scrambles Series. Bruce, who started the racing season with a pre-season ankle injury, has earned three second place finishes at tracks in Casey, Oakford and Coal Valley, Ill. Dealer Mark Hall sponsors Rich Bruce Racing. Team 94 Racing driver Shawn Martin battled to a fourth place finish at the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine in August. Martin started the race in 14th position but quickly passed up to the seventh spot. Martin battled for sixth, getting the pass and then quickly moved his stock car into 4th place. Also in early August, Martin ran a double header for the Late Model and Limited Sportsmen. In the first feature event, Martin worked his way from the back of the field to a third place finish.  In the second feature, Martin finished in second. AMSOIL Dealer Greg Peace sponsors Team 94 Racing. Monday Motorsports has fared well in the Wisconsin Late Model Series this season. Driver Andy Monday holds sixth place in the Wisconsin Challenge standings after racing on Sunday, August 27. He qualified with a lap time of 29.663 seconds, which put him third out of 68 cars. He started the feature race in twelfth and finished in 19th on the Milwaukee Mile track in Milwaukee. Dealer Rick Bahr sponsors Monday Motorsports Tea. Sprint car driver Don Adamczyk of Adamczyk Motorsports continues his march to the top. Adamczyk is the only driver who has competed the 72 consecutive ASCS/Patriot Sprint Group races since its formation in 2003. He is third in the points race and is leading the Hard Charger award by 13 points with only two points shows left.  Dealer Andrew P. Helffrich sponsors Adamczyk Motorsports. Randy Hall Racing driver Randy Hall out of Olean, N.Y. took second at Canandaigua Speedway in early August. The near capacity crowd was treated to an exciting event when the BRP CanAm Late Model Series made its first ever event at the famous Dirt track.
