“Lovell
Brothers Champions Again”
Team AMSOIL rock crawlers celebrate third straight
title
Farmington,
N.M. ~ Brothers Brad and Roger Lovell have not only been one of the top
teams on the United Rock Crawling and Off-Road Challenge (UROC) circuit the past
three years, they have been the best team. The Lovells entered 2006 with
back-to-back championships and a podium in every event they’ve entered over the
past two years.
The Lovells entered the final UROC Pro-National event in Farmington, N.M. with
both streaks in tow. The Farmington course is known for its huge climbs,
including a spectacular 40-foot sandstone bluff. Most teams have trouble with
the obstacle, and it was a major hurdle that the Lovells had to conquer to grab
their third straight season title.
Driver Brad
Lovell pushed the AMSOIL sponsored Ford Ranger up the hill, but made what could
have been a big mistake by letting off the gas. Unlike other teams, however,
the Ranger didn’t roll down the hill and the Lovells were able to recover and
finish the course one point away from a perfect run.
“The
angles did not feel good and staying in the throttle was more risk than I was
willing to take,” said Brad Lovell. “There is no doubt in my mind that the
BFGoodrich tires and carefully designed suspension covered up a costly mistake.”
At the end of
the day, the team found itself in first place with a 50-point margin. The win
also secured the 2006 Pro Modified Championship, the brothers third straight.
The victory also marked the team’s 20th straight event with a podium finish
(1st, 2nd or 3rd).
“It is a
testament to the Ranger and our supporters,” said Roger Lovell. “We have done
all this in the same truck with virtually no mechanical failure. We have the
right tool, and right sponsors, such as AMSOIL, for the job.”
The Lovells
will be putting their Ford Ranger on display this weekend at the Off-Road Expo
in Pomona, Calif. There, they will be competing in the inaugural UROC Rockcross.
The Lovells will also race at the XRRA event in their hometown of Colorado
Springs, Colo. on October 14.
“Autumn Woods Retains
Championship”
Weather doesn’t stop Dedick, Brantley in final event
Indianapolis, Ind. ~ Championships are hard to come by in any sport, and
when mother nature plays a role in the final outcome, things can get down right
disastrous. Extreme conditions, however, are a walk in the park for drivers
Jeff Dedick and Ricky Brantley of Autumn Woods Racing.
Heading
into the final weekend of the Special Events 4x4 Jamboree in Indianapolis, Ind.,
AWR was looking to pick up its fourth championship. With 21 trucks on the gate
for the event and Mother Nature slopping up the S-shaped course, Dedick and
Brantley had their hands full.
Rain made
qualifying difficult on Friday night. Dedick slid of the track, while Brantley
was able to grip enough traction for seventh. The rain turned to a downpour on
Saturday, canceling the racing.
Sunday turned
the corner, as ESPN went on board with both drivers. Dedick was able to beat a
higher qualifier in the first round by a full second. Brantley followed suit,
beating his competitor by a second and a half. Dedick was defeated by 1/100th
of a second in the next round, securing a third place finish on the day.
Brantley had trouble with his gearing, but still ended up in fourth.
For the 2006
season, AWR once again earned the championship. It marks the fourth time that
Dedick has taken home the honor. Brantley, who is in his first full season with
the team, finished the series in second.
“Smith Solid in Knoxville”
Late Model driver scores podium at ‘Nationals’
Knoxville,
Iowa ~ The Brady Smith Racing team invaded the historic Knoxville Raceway in
Knoxville, Iowa last weekend for the third annual 'Knoxville Late Model
Nationals.' On night one of the mega-event on Thursday, September 28, Smith
turned in the 22nd fastest qualifying time and won his heat race to earn the
tenth starting spot for the 25-lap A-Main. In the feature, Smith ran a solid
race to earn an 11th place finish at the 1/2-mile oval.
On Friday
night, the Solon Springs, Wis. native posted the 11th fastest time in time
trials and ran second in his heat race. He wound up finishing sixth in the final
rundown of the $6,000 to win feature.
The finale of
the 'Knoxville Late Model Nationals' took place on Saturday, September 30, and a
$35,000 payday was up for grabs. Smith rolled off tenth for the 100-lap affair
and wound up finishing a respectable tenth after the dust had settled at the
Marion County Fairgrounds oval. The race was taped by the SPEED Channel cameras
for viewing later in the year.
Smith will be
in Ohio this weekend at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the Fall
Nationals. Racing will take place on Friday and Saturday nights.
